Restoring the Rising Sun

During my time in Kandahar I was asked to restore the camp sign, which took pride of place at the front gates to Camp Baker, the Australian contingent working and living accommodation.
It was my honour to be able to do this. The memories of the time I have overseas on this and other deployments are a humbling reminder of how lucky I am to call a free country like Australia my home.
I've done a number of deployments to the Middle East and each time I return, I look out the window as we are landing at the lush Green City that is Sydney (that I then called home) and it filled my heart with joy.
It takes a special type of human to be able to leave their family to serve Australia’s interests. The art I leave behind when I am away is my gift to those who visit after me. I hope it fills others hearts with pride seeing it, like it did with mine while restoring the faded original.
