Playing with your food isn't always a bad thing. At least that's the conclusion that I came to after making this stunning design.

Welcome to typography of the edible kind! At the start of the year I started studying graphic design, the first subject Typography and learning to construct a effect textual design. The material when through all areas, history, the art of visual communication "how words can have different meaning or emphasis" when a certain font type, colour or size is used in a sentence. This is demonstrated in the simple example below.

I was introduced and became closely acquainted with the different styles of typeface; Serif, Sans-Serif, Slab, Slab-Serif and Script to name the most common. And also became acquainted with the technicalities of type designs including "the grid" used for page layouts, the design brief and last but not least kerning & tracking which are critical for ensuring readability!

I was amazed at all of the little things that make a design work, that you never think about when looking at a poster, magazine, brochure or advertising article (unless its done poorly then it sticks out like a sore thumb!). That is exactly what is key to being a good designer, they know what they are doing! Integrating colour, shapes, images and font to deliver you an effective and uninterrupted message, hopefully invoking emotion and then buy in from the reader.

That is exactly how my new website logo was born. Seen below, this was made with some very funky custom font I found & purchased through a designer on Etsy (for commercial use), as well as some time in Photoshop getting the image to work, with the right amount of spacing and embellishment to fit my personality. All up the successful end to my typography study, consolidated by building up my design skills through making eye catching pieces to use on this website.
