During an 8 month deployment in Kandahar Afghanistan with the Royal Australian Air Force, Kat delivered a touch of home to the Australian Camp by painting images from Australian artist on the camp walls.
The images were vivid and bright, giving the Australian's deployed something refreshing to look at in their down time in an otherwise desert like camp.
Kat chose works by Wendy Binks and Michael Leunig for the walls for their quirky and cheerful nature. As well as creating a few of her own.

While Kat was deployed the Australian War Memorial commissioned Artist Ben Quilty to visit Afghanistan and create a number of works to represent the modern soldier and life in a war zone. Kat and Ben found a common link in their creative minds and both saw the walls of the compound as blank canvas's ready for a breath of life. Their artwork remaining to fill the dusty void and giving the small outdoor common area some personality for those that followed to enjoy.

"Being deployed is an experience like no other and a some point during our time away, we all need a lift in spirit. I hope that in the years since my time in Kandahar my paintings have given people enjoyment and a mental moment away from the realities of deployment"
